Leave the city behind, join the nature-based stream rehabilitation tour in Csömör!

Our waterways have given us life, it is time to breathe life into them again. If you’re interested in creative nature-based solutions and wonder how to make a big impact with low-cost measures, this is the program for you. Join the stream rehabilitation tour in the suburbs of Budapest.

This tour will be guided by local experts and experienced colleagues from WWF Hungary.

During the site visit the following stops are planned (you can also check them on the map below):

1st stop: The old beach, where you worth to:

  • get familiar with the history of this unique place;
  • try the water trail;
  • check the brand-new log dam, which support water retention at the upper part of Csömöri stream

2nd stop: The fishing lake:

  • learn more about the new bird breeder island and small nature-based solutions;
  • discover the Csömör’s “Grand Canyon”.

3rd stop:

At the lower section of Csömöri stream you can check the results of the stream bed rehabilitation project which has brought water and life in the special nature conservation area and local ancient peat bog. Along the approximately 2 km stretch of stream, visitors will experience (at 2-3 sampling points) the positive impacts of the meandering stream bed, which used to be a deeply incised channel.

Tipps

It is worth bringing sport shoes, hiking clothes, and mosquito repellent spray. Check the weather in advance and prepare yourself accordingly.
